TABLE SALT

Composition:

Table salt is 97% to 99% sodium chloride, NaCl. One of the most common additives is iodine in the form of potassium iodide, sodium iodide, or sodium iodate. Iodized salt may also contain dextrose to stabilize the iodine.

Origin:

Table salt is produced all over the world, the top producers are:

  1. China (22,5% of world production)
  2. USA (14,5%)
  3. India (9%)

How to use in the kitchen:

Table salt shouldn't be used in savory recipes due to it's metallic taste. It can be used when baking, though, because these types of recipes typically only call for small quantities of salt.
